Revelation v.s. Information: Part 1

Have you ever wondered how some people seem to know all “about” God…but they don’t really…KNOW HIM?  They are “religious”…even VERY “religious”…but seem to have no Power or Presence of God in their lives!

God wants us to become aware of the very real difference between revelation and information. The one we focus upon determines not only our walk with God…but also our walk with men.  This interaction with people flows out of the character of Jesus we are allowing the Lord to build within us; and He works through revelation…rather than simply imparting “information”.  He comes to give us LIFE…and not just “knowledge” of some “good things”.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’…and there was light.” Genesis 1:1-3

Each of us have had the common and sometimes fearful occurrence of walking into an unfamiliar dark room, stumbling around in the chaotic unknown until we could find a lamp or wall switch, flipping it on…and instantly…the darkness is swallowed up by the light!  When that happens, the chaotic unknown is no more, and we have the ability to see our surroundings. Order returns, and we proceed freely and safely in our environment.

Life can often be like stumbling around in the chaotic unknown when we are unsure what to do, who to believe, or how to proceed in some situations of life. God anticipated our needs from the very beginning of creation. It is no coincidence that His first divine command – “Let there be light” –  began the process of transforming the chaos of darkness in creation.  In a close look at Genesis 1, we find the words, “God said, or God called” some 14 times!   His Spoken Word was His means of bringing about life and order. The earth was without form.  It was void …empty!  There was darkness, confusion, chaos…And He spoke and said…”Let there be….” and it was!

When God speaks, things happen! When His revealed Word is spoken, things that are out of order cannot remain in chaos!  What an awesome piece of “information”…or is it…revelation? Written words have the capacity of conveying to us information when we hear them, but our Creator wants to speak into our lives and convey more than information “about” Himself and “about” us.

His desire is that His words “uncover” the chaos and emptiness in our lives and “illumine” the darkness that threatens to swallow us up!

Whether or not His words accomplish His desire is up to us…rather than God. His desire is certain. He wants to call things in order and set them as they should be in our lives. He certainly has the creative power to do that!  After all… if He can set the sun in the heavens, separate day from night, create and separate the sky and waters, call earth into being with the capability to bring forth grass, herbs, and fruit with seed bearing after its own kind…then He can handle the chaos of our personal lives.

He, also, created all kinds of animals, birds, fish, and reptiles; and with one crowning word, He spoke and created man in His own image, male and female, created He them. He blessed and multiplied them! Most of us have known the creation story since childhood; but it came to us, first, by way of information…in a Bible story. Knowing this information changed nothing in our hearts; it only made us aware of circumstances of the beginning of creation and how mankind first came into being. This Old Testament story contains facts that we need to know.

The same is true of the factual account of the birth, life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus found in the New Testament. As a child, I accepted and received all of this information. It was passed on to me by trusted people, and I “believed” the information that was taught me. Without this vital foundational truth, I would be lost today; but it was not the factual information that brought about my new birth, it was the revelation of this information in my heart that changed me from a sinner to a child of God, saved by Grace. Once my spirit (the deepest part of my being) became aware of this transforming truth…I was changed!

It has been said that the longest and most significant distance one ever has to travel is 18 inches…the distance between one’s head to one’s heart. Anyone can believe biblical facts in their head…but until the truth of that vital information drops those crucial inches to a heart that has humbled itself in faith before Almighty God in Jesus’ Name, there will be no revelation…and thus no true salvation from sin.

Salvation from sin is a revelationthat comes only to a surrendered heart.

DETERMINATION: Working intently to accomplish goals regardless of the opposition.

“Jesus Christ is the SAME…yesterday, today, and forever!” Hebrews 13:8
