It’s Not COOL to Be a FOOL!

My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding. Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:1-5

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 teaches, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: FEAR GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. For this is man’s ALL. For God will bring every work into judgment; including every secret thing, whether good or evil.”

The fear of the Lord is the secret of obtaining genuine wisdom! It is not the terror of a tyrant, but the kind of awe and respect for God and His Word which will lead to humble obedience to Him who is the wisest of all! Those who do not walk in it…the Bible says…are FOOLS!

None of us like to think of ourselves as “foolish” in this day and age…for it is not “cool” to be a “fool”!

The Lord makes provision for us to not be found in that way…if we will daily “abide under the Shadow of the Almighty” and “acknowledging Him in ALL our ways,” for He has promised that if we do…He WILL direct our path. To turn to God in all our ways is the “cool” thing to do spiritually. It is the right thing to do.

All over the world…Christians gather in groups to celebrate JESUS, to praise and worship….to listen to His Word….and yet many walked away…and act as “fools” in their personal behavior or thinking. Such do not have the “fear of the Lord”…something He has repeatedly said that we, as His people, should have.  Respect for and obedience to His Authority!

When I was small…many times…it was the “fear of my mother and father” that held me “in line.” That parental authority is designed to carry weight, and it is only “foolish” children…who stray from it. Though it is not “cool to be a fool” in this day and time…those who follow the ways of the world think is “cool to do one’s own thing.”

We cannot align ourselves with that kind of attitude and be found “doing what is right in our own eyes”, but due to a true love for and fear of the Lord….we must “Get wisdom and get understanding!” Proverbs 4:5 and walk in line with His ways…learning them and obeying them progressively day by day.

Beginning with truth from Proverbs 2….let me end with that same chapter, for it continues in verses 6-9: “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding; He grants a treasure of good sense to the godly. He is their shield, protecting those who walk with integrity.  He guards the paths of justice and protects those who are faithful to Him.”

For the next 12 verses it extols the virtues of wisdom which is the outcome for those who fear the Lord. And then it ends abruptly with verse 22: “But the wicked will be removed from the land, and the unfaithful will be destroyed.”

I want God’s wisdom, His knowledge and understanding. I want what He has stored up for me…I want Him to be a shield for me, to guard the path of  justice and preserve my way as His saint. I want to walk uprightly and not in the way of fools…for God calls them  wicked.

“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith.  Test yourselves.  Do you not know yourselves, that JESUS CHRIST is IN you? – unless indeed you are disqualified! “  2 Cor. 13:5

HONOR THE LORD.  OBEY HIS WORD!  ESTABLISH HIS KINGDOM in YOUR HEART and in the HEARTS and LIVES of those about you!!!

The wicked are those who do not walk in the truth and the fear of the Lord. What a depressing end….and it need not be so…if we would just “be cool…and not be a fool!”

DETERMINATION: Working intently to accomplish goals regardless of the opposition.
