WAIT TRAINING: Part 3, We Must Make Preparation

God, alone, knows how we are to prepare to be made ready for the coming of the Lord!  If we want to know…we must present ourselves to Him, daily, and seek His Face to receive instruction that will show each of us not only how to be made ready for His coming…but also how we can allow Him to live in us day by day on this earth!

Why is it VITAL that we must follow through in obedience to the instructions we are given?  Exercise-pictures-original2Because to know what to do…and not do it, results in the same lack of preparation as the one who has not sought the Lord.  Yes, we are saved by the Blood of Jesus, but obedience to His Word of instruction in this life has always been and will always be a distinguishing characteristic of the true and faithful believer.

We must learn to “wait upon the Lord” with an “ear to hear what the Spirit is saying” to each of us as members of the Body of Christ.  He is  speaking today, and His instructions from the book of Hebrews concerning discipline and endurance and obedience are part of the “wait training” and preparation that is necessary to strengthen us and assure our successful run of the “appointed race” set before each of us.  We are specifically told to take personal responsibility in these things.  It is not the responsibility of those what are pastors, teachers, apostles, prophets, or evangelists to obey these things for us.  One individual cannot fulfill the obedience of another.  It is up to each of us personally.  We cannot sit passively in pews and “blame-shift” or even say “the devil made me do it” when we are disobedient.  No!  The responsibility truly lies at the feet of each individual person.

“Unnecessary weights, encumbrances, and sins which so easily entangle and ensnare us…” (Hebrews 12:1) are those personal habits, traits, and characteristics which hinder individual believers in their personal growth and development in the spirit.  This would include any ungodly, persistent attitudes, thoughts, words, or action that would separate us from fellowship with our Holy God…or His people.  The decision to deal with such things is a personal one because it is the individual who is held accountable before God!

As God’s people, we must identify ourselves with His character and resist the tendency to identify with the carnal, flesh nature…or the spirit of this world!  Laziness and slothfulness are characteristics of the flesh nature that draw back from preparation or disciplined training, and they are destroyers of the spiritual strength necessary to “run the race” with patient endurance and active persistence.  As God’s people, we have the capacity to stand in the “winner’s circle”…in a  life that is at peace with God and His Kingdom…IF we obediently do whatever it takes to mortify our flesh and be among the prepared ones!

exercise 2Jesus, our Banner and Standard before us, endured the Cross!  He was “trained” for this ability to endure…in times of daily, faithful prayer.  He was the first to “run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence!”  (verse 1)  He finished His race and WON because He, like His Father, remained firm in His purpose.  He also remained firm under suffering, bearing up patiently in all that was required of Him.  He is calling us to do the same…but we can do it only by His strength – by the power of the Holy Spirit and our willingness to be led by His Spirit.   The Holy Spirit is within us, but we must humble ourselves daily in obedience to “wait upon Him” and allow Him to “come upon us” to strengthen us to live this life in the manner He has called us to live.  If we continue in our carnal fleshly ways, this will be impossible; BUT if we will yield to Him in obedience to His Word, He will empower us to “run our race” and complete our course in righteousness as a witness and testimony to this world that Jesus still lives in His people, today!
